Parent – Teacher Partnerships
A parent – teacher partnership is vital to the success of the 2nd grader. The partnership takes various forms throughout the year. The base and most important form is the support that the parents and teacher lend each other. The review of corrected work at home, ensuring homework is completed and studying for tests takes place, communications between parents and teacher about family issues, concerns, improvements seen, all lead to the student’s needs being met more successfully at home and school.
There are also weekly opportunities for parents, who are able, to volunteer around the school and in the classroom. This gives parents an ability to observe and take a greater role in the daily learning environment of their child and his/her classmates.
Home School Communications
You will be receive from your child’s teacher lots of communications throughout the year. It will come in various forms. Each month you will receive a class newsletter highlighting some of the topics and activities that are occurring in class. You will receive at the end of each week two folders of corrected work. One is a Math folder which contains selected pieces of class math work, quizzes, and tests. The other folder is a Friday folder which contains selected work from other subject assignments, quizzes, and tests. Each folder contains comments about the work and a space for comments by you. There are two scheduled conference times during the year – one in the fall and one in spring. Additional conferences can be arranged as needed.
