Kindergarten
A program that nurtures the spirit as well as the mind.
Program philosophy: Kindergarten is an exciting and challenging time. Children experience new learning situations, expand social relationships, develop additional responsibilities, and meet expectations of adults outside the family. Kindergarten establishes a solid foundation that will lead to a positive educational experience for years to come. Our program creates an environment where all students work and play together peacefully with awareness and respect for themselves and each other.
Kindergarten Class Schedule: The children attend class Monday through Friday from 8:30 to 3:00. Extended Care is available before and after school from 6:30am to 6:00pm.
The Kindergarten program at St. Frances Cabrini School has a structured and active curriculum providing an exciting and enjoyable learning experience. Each day includes reading, writing, counting and creative activities such as art, music, physical education and play. All kindergarten activities are learning experiences. Your 5 or 6 year-old child will be directly involved in observing, manipulating, making comparisons, predicting and exploring.
Faith Formation: Through songs, stories and interaction with their peers the children learn the Gospel values of community, faith, hope, courage, love, reconciliation, service and justice. The children learn prayers, participate in school masses and are involved in service projects that extend into the greater community.
Language Arts: Language arts include listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It is part of every phase in the program. Language is taught in meaningful ways. Letter recognition, letter-sound association, letter formation and basic sight words are taught through stories, playing games, singing, memorizing poems, making books and journal writing.
Mathematics: The math program, Math Their Way, emphasizes number concepts (0-10), addition and subtraction, patterning, measuring and problem solving. These concepts are taught through a variety of activities such as math games. Graphing, whole group instruction, math centers, stories, role playing and relating math to daily living activities.
Science: Science, in kindergarten, helps your child discover the immediate environment, heighten powers of observation and deepen the child’s sense of wonder. Through observation, classifying, predicting, collecting data and presenting reports the children are actively involved in the scientific process.
Social Studies: The social studies program focuses on helping children develop an awareness and appreciation of themselves and others as members of a community. Each child learns through the use of diverse materials, stories, field trips and guest community speakers.
The kindergarten curriculum is enhanced with art, music, physical education and library.
